A Few Things I Have Learned from 100 Blog Posts

Yes. This is my 100th blog post! Pretty amazing since this time last year I didn’t even have a Facebook page.

I admit—I am proud of myself. Writing my 100th blog post means that I have stuck with it for several months. I started out posting three blogs a week. Now I post twice a week with an occasional mini-post.

I have learned several things about blogging, writing, and designing a website through this experience. For fun, I thought I would share a few.

Before I share some things I have learned from blogging, I appreciate your feedback. Do you resonate with what I write about? Do you like some topics better than others? What ways can I help you? As you think about these questions, please leave a comment. Or If you prefer to directly email me, you can find a contact form on my About page.

There is plenty to write about

My tagline is Missional Lifestyle. Most of what I write about fits within this, including orphan care, international missions, social justice, and sharing the life Jesus Christ has graced me with. I am passionate about these things, so it is easy to have things to write about.

Still I am sensitive to what you like to read about. So, please let me know what you like and want to read.

I keep notes in my Evernote app about blog ideas. I add ideas almost everyday that come up in conversation, life experiences, or my time spent with God.

I plan to add a resource section to my website this fall. I think it will have resources for adoption, foster care, discipleship, how to know God—those kind of things. I would love to get your ideas and feedback on that.

Blog consistently

I have met several people who have at least started a blog. A common comment is that they either stopped or blog inconsistently. I guess it depends on why a person blogs in the first place.

For me, I want to learn how to write, develop my voice (how I communicate), find others that want to not only read what I write, but also interact with me about these topics, and to have some influence. Blogging consistently helps me with all of these.

Take chances

100 blogs is beginning to show me what works and what does not work. This includes subject, blog title, and content. Some things work and others don’t. Bottom line is that I want people to want to read what I write. If I didn’t I should just keep a private journal.

I am also learning to share more of who I am, how I think, my emotional response to life, and my views about things. Did you know that you don’t have to agree with me to be my friend? Nope, just be willing to be real about life and respect my views as I will yours.

A lot of people want to help me succeed

Friends, neighbors, family, people met online in forums and online communities all have helped me with writing, website design and function, promotion and marketing. This was a pleasant surprise. I hope to pay it forward.

A reminder—Which topics that I blog about do you like to read about most?

If you are a beginner blogger or writer, or you are considering it, please ask me questions if you want to know more about my experience. I  would love to hear from you.

  • Kenny, I think you are doing a great job. Keep it up. I love hearing stories of what missional living looks like. I enjoy hearing how others are putting that lifestyle into action. It helps me see opportunities in my life. Thanks so much.
